The Proven Model
Music heritage tourism has a documented track record in Appalachia. Bristol, VA's Birthplace of Country Music Museum (opened 2014, Smithsonian-affiliated) and its Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion festival generated $16 million in economic impact with nearly 50,000 attendees in a single year. Virginia's Crooked Road heritage music trail generates $9.2 million annually and supports 131 jobs across 19 counties.
